Did you remember to stretch today?

Ah, that wonderful inconvenience of ‘stretching’…..you, know – that thing you should be doing DAILY…even if you don’t workout? And if you do workout–it’s that thing you should be doing before workout (most of you do this) AND AFTER workout (this one is used much less).
In order to lengthen your muscles & allow your regular daily activities to be easier, you must encoroporate a regular stretching program into your routine!

You can stretch anywhere:
While at work, waiting for the file to upload – jump up and do some simple stretches.
On a road trip and feeling tired? Pull over for a 3-5 minute stretching routine and you’ll feel much more refreshed!
…Or, just watching TV at home– while sitting on the couch, consider stretching throughout your shows.

It does not have to involve a huge time commitment, but stretching can end up giving you huge results! Here are just a few of the benefits you can expect from a regular stretching program:

  • Reduced muscle tension
  • Increased range of movement in the joints
  • Enhanced muscular coordination
  • Increased circulation of the blood to various parts of the body
  • Increased energy levels (resulting from increased circulation)

No matter your age, or size – stretching is important for you!

  1. Increase your range of motion
  2. Prevent injury
  3. Increase your muscle-recovery time after a workout!

In addition to feeling good – a regular stretching program obtains large gains in flexibility and joint movement.

“Be kind to your muscles and they will be kind to you!”

Here’s a sample video of how I even stretch my daughter (and have stretch all my daughters every time I change their diapers, since they were about 6 months old):

(side bar: Ok, so this turned out much darker than i expected…and my 3 year old is holding the camera through much of it. But I often tell people about stretching my kiddos from when they were about 6 months old- forward. They are quite flexible as a result and I think it will contribute to them preventing injury and being able to better perform athletically when they get older. I’ll try to post a better video of how I stretch them later….but this is going to have to do for now. And couldn’t finish without a “GO BIG RED!” hehe… (for fellow Husker junkies..that’s the Husker/OSU game on replay, can’t make it out, but that was when Rex just scored the game winning touchdown!  :o)  )
